London, the capital city, is the most populous city in the United Kingdom. Standing on the banks of the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for over two millenia. London is a metropole and a leading global city with strengths in arts, commerce, fashion, entertainment, media, tourism,… That’s why we think at Belvicci that it’s never a bad idea to visit this ever-changing city.
It’s a vibrant, diverse and exciting city with some of the world’s best sights, attractions and activities. That’s why it’s extremely hard to narrow down the long list of reasons to visit, but we gave it our best shot!
1. The spectacular London skyline
The London skyline is iconic! The tower of London, the Tower bridge, the Palace of Westminster, St.-Margaret’s Westminster Abbey and St.-Paul’s Cathedral are but a few of London’s magnificent buildings which have stood the test of time. One of the most recent additions is the Shard, a striking 87-storey skyscraper.
Lately there’s been a lot of debate on the London skyline as at least eight new towers will be added within the next fifteen years, changing the view of this metropole for ever.
Make sure you can take in the panoramic view from somewhere up high or somewhere a long the banks of the River Thames during your stay.
2. Top attractions
London boasts some of the world’s greatest, iconinc and exciting attractions! That’s why it’s little wonder that ‘The City’ is one of the planet’s top tourist destinations.
The British museum, Tate Britain, The National Gallery, Hampton Court Palace, London Olympic Parc 2012, the London Eye,… This is but a grasp of London’s amazing attractions. You can spend days discovering sights without missing out on incredible things to see and to do.
3.Luscious green spaces and parks
London is one of the greenest capitals in the world. One of the best things of London is it’s abundance of open spaces and the fact that you can visit these majestic parks for free. Take a relaxing stroll in Regent’s Park, or move faster by cycling, skating or skateboarding on one of the designated paths in Hyde Park. Visit the oldest of the Royal parks, Greenwich Park, or the once private gardens of Kensington Palace, Kensington Gardens.
4. Shopping galore
London is a shopping paradise. It’s a dream come true for every fashionista in the world.
You can visit an iconic department store such as Harrods or Selfridges. Or take a stroll down Portobello Road, or the markets on Camden Road for a more traditional taste of London.
In any case, no mather what style of shopping you love, you will find it all in London!
5. Museums and art exhibitions
London is a real treat for museum and art lovers across the world. Big venues with incredible collections, like the British museum, the Science Museum and the Natural History museum, would be sorry to miss. You may be surprised to hear that most of London’s major museums and art galleries offer free admission. 6. Theatre
London has the best theatre scene in the world. It attracts the very best actors in the business. There’s wide selection of musicals and plays making their debut in theatres like the Royal National Theatre.
In 2015 Benedict Cumberbatch will be starring in Hamlet at the Barbarian.
7. Sporting events
London is home to some of the most prestigious sporting locations in the world such as Wembley Stadium, Wimbledon, Lords and Twickenham.
This year London will be hosting the Rugby World Cup and the EuroHockey Championships 2015.
8. The River Thames
London’s fame and fortune is due to The River Thames. The river makes for a stunning backdrop to the city’s top tourist attractions.
